Spine Control Class
AthletiCo offers a one-time, one-hour spine control class that teaches participants how to take care of their back and neck during the activities of work and life. Participants can improve the quality of their life by learning concepts and skills that all people should know, regardless of their specific diagnosis.

Who Should Attend
- Patients who are prescribed physical therapy with a spine-related diagnosis have the opportunity to take our Spine Control Class.
- Individuals who are not current patients but who have a history of neck pain, thoracic pain, low back pain, or a postural problem would also benefit from the class. While attending the class, participants receive feedback from the teaching therapist teaching to help you decide if further treatment might be beneficial.
Topics Covered
- Common causes of neck and back pain
- Proper posture and the “neutral spine” concept
- Proper body mechanics during activities of daily living (desk ergonomics, abdominal bracing, lifting techniques, pushing, pulling, sleeping postures, etc.)
- How to decrease risk of injury
Class Details
- Classes are taught by licensed physical therapists and physical therapist assistants
- Participants will work with the teaching therapists to practice good body mechanics for several common daily and work activities
- A take-home comprehensive Spine Control booklet will be distributed to each participant, which includes all of the class content as well as basic anatomy and an explanation of common spinal diagnoses.
- Accessories to support the back will be reviewed.
