AthletiCo made the holidays a little brighter for local children and families by participating in the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program and the Marines Toys for Tots Drive this holiday season.
AthletiCo fulfilled over 2,000 tags for the community by having an Angel Tree in their clinics for employees and patients to purchase a gift for local children and families in need. In addition, almost 400 toys were collected for Toys for Tots at AthletiCo’s holiday party. On behalf of everyone at AthletiCo, thank you to all who donated to both of these great causes! |
On Sunday, December 9, six AthletiCo ATCs, along with friends and family, volunteered at Northwestern University with the Campus Kitchens project. Campus Kitchens is a national organization that recycles unserved food from campus dining halls to make nourishing meals and deliver those meals to those who need it most in communities across the country. Northwestern University’s chapter is organized by several student volunteers who plan the menus, get the food, run the cooking shifts, and organize the drivers for the deliveries twice a week. The Campus Kitchens Project works on ten campuses across the country. They have provided more than 360,000 meals since inception, and now serve nearly 2,500 meals each month.
AthletiCo volunteers prepared over 130 sack lunches for a local church and more than 75 hot meals for several different apartment complexes and some single-family homes. The ATCs then split into groups and personally delivered the food to the families registered for the meals.
"Campus Kitchens made it very easy to for us to contribute to their program. I was impressed with their staff and appreciated how welcome they made us feel. For me personally, it was the first time my family has participated in this type of philanthropy. I enjoyed working with my kids (ages 2, 5, 6) and watching them focus for 2 hours on helping other people,” said Regional Manager Jeff Hay, MS, ATC.
Liz Brunner, ATC at Deerfield High School, also thought volunteering was a positive experience. “I had a great experience working with the ATCs and staff at Campus Kitchens. I really enjoyed meeting other AthletiCo ATCs and having the opportunity to participate in a project that we all could work together on as a team. We were able to help families of a local community who truly appreciated the food we brought to their homes. I look forward to the next ATC volunteer opportunity.”
Thanks to all those AthletiCo employees and their friends and family who volunteered for this great cause:

AthletiCo will be hosting the 2008 Special Olympics Illinois Area 18 Spring MedFest at the AthletiCo Hoffman Estates location. MedFest is a free medical application day held to afford more children and adults the opportunity to participate in the Special Olympics program—especially those individuals who have difficulty getting a medical exam on their own. Athletes cannot train or compete in Special Olympics unless they are examined by a physician and have a current medical application on file. The physicals provided at MedFest are free of charge.
This year is the tenth year Special Olympics Illinois will be holding a MedFest in the Chicago area and the first year AthletiCo will be participating in the event. In addition to hosting the MedFest, AthletiCo clinicians will be on-hand to greet participants and their parents and assist the doctors with the athletes’ physicals. Athletes will be examined by Dr. Jeffrey Mjaanes, from Midwest Orthopedics at Rush, and Dr. Timothy Albion, from Women’s Care PC.
