1 Clinic Renovations:

Thank you for your patience during two of AthletiCo’s clinic renovations.  These changes are being made or have been made to better service our patients and offer a more rewarding work environment.

Willowbrook: Renovations will begin in the next month and will include a larger open workout area, more treatment tables, a new dictation room, a new sink and cabinets in the treatment area, an improved reception office, a new color scheme, and new floor coverings.

Wheeling: In August, we completed the remodeling of the Wheeling clinic.  The project included repainting the entire clinic, all new carpeting, new handicapped accessible bathrooms including all new ceramic floors and fixtures, new moldings along the ceiling, a new ceramic tile entryway, an improved reception area with a new front reception desk, new file cabinets, a new electric door opener, new chem metal in the treatment area, new ceiling fans, and some additional electrical outlets.

AthletiCo Clinicians Complete Study in Low Back Pain
Daphne Scott, PT, MSPT, FAAOMPT, OCS, ATC, Cert. MDT, and Jason Walters, PT, Bucktown, recently completed stage 1 of a 2-stage research project.  The research project entitled, “Use of Treatment-Based Classification Groups Produces Significant Outcomes in Patients with Low Back Pain,” has been approved by the Orthopedic Section of the APTA for presentation in February at the Combined Sections in Boston.

The purpose of the study was to examine the outcomes for patients who received physical therapy for low back pain based upon a treatment emphasis.  Subjects were assessed for function and impairments and then classified to determine their treatment emphasis.  However, therapists were untrained in the specific clinical examination variables used to classify patients into specific treatment groups.  Therapists were required to choose different treatment-based emphasis throughout patient treatment. Data was recorded at initial and discharge sessions, and descriptive data was calculated for all demographic and dependent variables.

The conclusion of this data collection showed, as has been shown in the past, that physical therapy improves both functional and impairment measures for patients with low back pain.  Importantly, the use of a Treatment Based Classification system, even when therapists were untrained in specific treatment classification variables and applied no additional criteria, was successful in improving patient outcomes.

These preliminary results suggest that identification of treatment emphasis based on clinical assessment alone may be as effective in guiding treatment as more elaborate classification schemes. Read Full Abstract>
