I’m not an athlete but I do exercise quite a bit, mostly by running and playing racquetball. I had two foot sprains in college. They would hurt when it got cold. Then I spent three years ice skating, including jumps and spins. I haven’t had a foot sprain since, even though I accidentally twisted my ankles in weird positions. Flexibility, balance, and strength are definitely important.
