AthletiCo Opens Physical Therapy Facility in Oak Lawn

Posted on

AthletiCo Opens Physical Therapy Facility in Oak Lawn AthletiCo opened its newest physical therapy facility in Oak Lawn at 8729 Ridgeland Avenue.  Located near the corner of Ridgeland and 87th Street, the AthletiCo Oak Lawn facility will provide physical therapy, orthopedic rehabilitation, sports medicine, and work rehabilitation.   Transportation services are also available for those patients who require transportation assistance.

With the opening of the Oak Lawn facility, the community will now have access to a rehabilitation provider that manages patient outcomes and satisfaction using a third-party outcomes system to manage and continuously improve quality.  What this means for patients and referring physicians is that outcome reports with measurable data on a patient’s progression will be available and discussed throughout the course of treatment.  In addition, patient satisfaction is measured at three different points during treatment in order to better understand and respond to patient needs while they are still receiving rehabilitation services, rather than after a patient is discharged.

Mike Jenckes, PT, DPT, will serve as the facility manager for the Oak Lawn facility.  Jenckes has been with AthletiCo for over 3 years, beginning his career at AthletiCo’s Lisle facility, located in the Bulls Sox Academy.  In addition, he has worked as an AthletiCo University representative for the past year and a half, helping to provide in-house continuing education events at multiple facilities. Jenckes’ wife, Kim, also works for AthletiCo as an athletic trainer.

AthletiCo Opens Physical Therapy Facility in Oak Lawn“Oak Lawn is a perfect place for me because you can tell there is a community feel with hardworking people,” says Jenckes, a Calumet City native.  “I strive for that same feel at my facility. Growing up on the south side, I am familiar with the area and look to create the best facility I can to keep our residents healthy and active.”

Jenckes interest in the physical therapy profession began in high school when he was in physical therapy for a torn ACL.  There he met a young boy with cerebral palsy who could barely walk with braces and forearm crutches.  Jenckes remembers how the boy would come to therapy with a huge smile on his face, despite his therapy being quite frequently painful.  It was after this experience that Jenckes knew he wanted to have the opportunity to work with such amazing patients and have the capacity to effectively treat them.

“My favorite thing about being a physical therapist is the improvement in my patients,” he explains. “When someone has been in pain for weeks or isn’t able to walk, having that patient tell me that they feel better after treatment reminds me why I chose this profession.”
