Lorie Pender

I injured my lower back doing yard landscaping. I was referred to PT for my lower back pain. During this same time frame, I was training for a half marathon. Running is not new to me; I completed a full iron man triathlon a few years back. However, the last three years I struggled with lower leg muscle strain my last two attempts with the 13-mile distance.
This summer seemed to be a repeat of leg strain, only this time it traveled to my left foot with the worst case of plantar fasciitis I ever knew possible. I found myself struggling to walk without flinching or grimacing. Betsy was my physical therapist for my foot. After taking time to listen to my story, Betsy recommended a course of pelvic floor PT after my foot PT was done.
I graduated PT for my foot and started pelvic floor PT for my low back pelvis pain the next week. This was a game changer. Hima helped pinpoint my pelvic weakness and taught me how to strengthen those muscles. In the process I could feel how my pelvic floor muscles impacted my hip, my knee, my calf, and my foot. Hima introduced me to dry needling and that helped release the knots in my pelvis and hips.
I started to walk again beyond my house. I could walk the dog around the block. Then I tried picking up the pace, then walk running. It was way slower than I was used to, but it was pain free! I graduated from Pelvic floor PT so happy.
I am a witness to the benefits for pelvic floor PT; it’s not just for urinary incontinence. No more low back pelvis pain. No more plantar fasciitis pain. I ran in the Big House 5k and my long runs are up to 8 miles now with no pain. I keep up with my exercises and stretching. I’m so grateful to Betsy, Bo and Hima! They took care of me and I’m better because of them. Thank you for improving my quality of life. I can run again, and that was my heart’s desire. Of course, walking pain free is a gift, but to be able to run, that’s my go to therapy.
