Day In the Life of a Physical Therapist
Are you considering a career as a physical therapist and want to know what a day in the life of a PT looks like? Or maybe you’re a patient and curious about what your PT does over the day. I’m a physical therapist, and this is a look at a typical day, from arriving at the clinic to heading home for some personal time.
Congratulations to Athletico’s Newest Board-Certified Specialists
At Athletico, our clinicians undergo advanced training and pursue certifications for the experience and education necessary to provide our patients with the highest standard of care. For this reason, we want to recognize the clinicians committed to their education and practice in becoming board-certified as Orthopaedic Clinical Specialists (OCS) or Sports Clinical Specialists (SCS). These credentials are designated by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) to those who have successfully become board-certified clinical specialists working with orthopaedic or sports diagnoses.
Medical Mission Story: Providing Essential Healthcare In Nigeria
Athletico clinicians are passionate about providing quality care that often extends far beyond the clinic walls and communities we serve. The Athletico Cares Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is proud to support clinicians in their pursuit to make a difference at home and abroad.
Hear from Kristi Van Ham, PT, DPT, about her recent medical mission trip to Nigeria with ImaBridge Africa. As a volunteer, Kristi used her training and skills as a physical therapist to provide essential healthcare services to Nigerian people living in rural communities.
International Women’s Day: Inspire Inclusion
Each year, we celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD), a time to reflect on and honor women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. It is one of the most important days to celebrate women’s accomplishments and raise awareness about women’s equality.
With this year’s “Inspire Inclusion” theme, we asked Athletico leaders to share their thoughts on the importance of creating an all-inclusive environment. Here’s what they had to say!
Building Better Communities: 2023 PT Day of Service
Each year, Athletico team members come together for an annual Day of Service to impact lives outside of our clinic walls. Athletico has a long history of helping build healthier, more vibrant communities, and our employees share a passion for giving back in many ways throughout the year.
In recognition of Global PT Day of Service this month, 700+ Athletico employees from across our network participated in 52 service projects, volunteering 459+ hours of their time to support the health and wellness of the communities they live and work in throughout the summer.
Lending a Helping Hand in Honduras
Athletico Hand Therapist, Shelia T., OTR/L, CHT recently traveled to Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras, on a medical mission trip with Global Health Outreach from May 27 to June 3, 2023. During her time in Honduras, Shelia had the opportunity to impact the lives of many by leveraging her skills as a hand therapist to construct custom orthotics and braces for those in need.
The Athletico Cares Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to serving Athletico employees and communities, was proud to support Shelia’s trip with a grant, in addition to a generous fundraiser hosted by Athletico’s St. Louis region.
Clinical Excellence: Celebrating Athletico’s Newest CMPTs
Athletico is committed to promoting clinical excellence and inspiring professional growth. As an opportunity for specialized post-professional training, we partner with the Institute of Manipulative Physiotherapy & Clinical Training (IMPACT) to deliver the advanced certification of Certified Manual Physical Therapist (CMPT). This certification advances clinical competency in manual physical therapy, enhances clinical decision-making and differential diagnosis to improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.
How to Build Your Career as an AT
You did it! You passed the BOC, got your licensure, and even landed your first Athletic Training position. Being a brand-new Athletic Trainer is both exciting and nerve-wracking. You have all the skills and knowledge from school, but no one is familiar with you yet. The seasoned ATs at your team meeting talk about the cool minor league hockey game they got to cover, or one just had lunch with a physician and their clinical team, and you’re still trying to figure out this new role. You have probably asked yourself, “How did they do it? How did they build their career as an AT, and how can I do it too?
