Endurance Injury

I’ve always been an athlete. Growing up I played every sport, but running was always my true passion. Back pain continued to be a part of my athletic career, but I did not realize the severty of my condition was until I was 20. After a MRI, results showed that my spine had slipped causing my muscle to hold it in place.   I was provided with two choices; one being extensive surgery that would leave me with a 50% chance of being paralyzed and the other being to hold my spine in place and not worsen the injury with screws and rods.

I chose the second option, and a year after the surgery, pain continued. I returned to the doctor, where I was told all of the screws had broken in my back. Another surgery was needed. This time around post surgical rehabiliation with Athletico was recommended. This is where I met the most amazing therapist I would ever ask for, Vanessa Hart. She understood my problems and goals for therapy. The most important, being able to run again. I was barely able to walk when I started rehab, but Vanessa pushed me to get stronger every day!  After months of work and Vanessa’s patience, I was finally able to run my first mile. #myathleticostory
