Athletico Physical Therapists Provide Dry Needling Service

Posted on

People with any type of pain, from migraine headaches to arthritis to low back pain, may get relief from dry needling treatment, a skilled technique offered at a number of Athletico Physical Therapy facilities in greater Chicagoland and Wisconsin.

Dry needling involves placing ultra-thin needles into painful areas of the body to stimulate the pain-causing trigger points in the muscle and connective tissues. The technique takes from five to eight minutes and helps reduce pain, restore function and improve activity levels.

“Many people with pain describe a “knot” in the muscle, which actually is a myofascial trigger point,” said Grant Koster, Regional Manager and Physical Therapist at Athletico. “The needle releases that knot, essentially by inducing the tissue to twitch and breaks the cycle of pain. It provides a new option for relief to many people who haven’t been able to overcome the pain using other methods.” Koster adds, “It assists in speeding up recovery, and if you have tried traditional physical therapy and failed this may be an option to get rid of musculoskeletal pain”

Dry needling can be beneficial for all types of pain, including the various kinds of headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, and impingement syndrome, as well as arthritis and back pain. Athletico physical therapists receive three levels of training to become experts in the technique and provide effective and safe dry needling treatment.

Current Athletico patients can talk to their physical therapist to learn if they are candidates for dry needling treatment. For more information about Athletico and dry needling, or to find a physical therapist near you, visit http://www.athletico.com/dryneedling.
