AthletiCo Enters Third State as Schererville, IN Facility Opens
AthletiCo opened its newest physical therapy center at 1505 U.S. Highway 41 in Schererville, Indiana. The opening of the NW Indiana/Schererville center is the first AthletiCo facility in Indiana, marking the third state with an AthletiCo presence. AthletiCo opened its first physical therapy center in Chicago in 1991 and has since opened over 50 facilities throughout Illinois, as well as its first Wisconsin facility in Milwaukee in December 2009.
AthletiCo NW Indiana/Schererville‘s services will include Physical Therapy, Sports Medicine, Work Rehabilitation, Functional Capacity Evaluations, Work Conditioning, Golf Rehabilitation, and Video Throwing Analysis. Transportation services are also available.
To open AthletiCo’s first Indiana facility, Schererville native Derek Goins, PT, MPT, was promoted to the position of Facility Manager. “I’m thrilled to open this facility in my hometown,” says Goins. “I know the area and the people very well, and I think our location will provide residents with a convenient and accessible option for their physical therapy needs.”
Growing up in Schererville, Goins displayed an interest in medicine at a young age. “I was always fascinated by the medical profession,” says Goins. “During college, I injured my shoulder playing basketball and had to undergo surgery and several months of physical therapy. The experience heightened my interest in physical therapy and I decided to pursue it as a career.”
Goins began practicing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he had the opportunity to work with patients ranging from high school athletes to active senior citizens. After three years in Myrtle Beach, Goins returned to the Midwest joining AthletiCo in 2008. As a physical therapist and assistant facility manager at AthletiCo’s Matteson facility, Goins treated professional and college athletes, injured workers, the retirement community, and everyone in between.
Patients at AthletiCo NW Indiana/Schererville will have access to AthletiCo’s industrial rehabilitation specialists, physical therapists, certified athletic trainers, and occupational/hand specialists who work with many of the local physicians in the Northwest Indiana area.
