Does Poor Posture Really Cause Back Pain?

How many times have you heard from your elders to “Sit up straight” or “Stop slouching.” We often hear these phrases growing up and many others like them. But how much does our posture relate to the development of back pain? Growing up, I always thought it was very important and as I began my training as a physical therapist, that was reaffirmed. However, as I became more of an orthopedic expert, I realized it is not nearly as important as we were told.

The Impact Binge Watching has on Your Posture

Have you ever been scrolling through a streaming platform and notice that your favorite show has a new season available? Typically the first thing that enters your mind is, “well there goes the next six hours of my life.” We’ve all done it. Plopped ourselves down on the couch and just rattled off a season’s worth of episodes without moving an inch. Yet, when you finally gather the strength to get off the couch, your body feels wrecked.

Healthy Super Bowl Watching Experience

Here we are: the NFL Super Bowl is here. This usually means that my couch game is in full swing, with me parked on the couch watching other people being active. However, this year will be different. I’ve developed a five-pronged approach to a healthy Super Bowl watching experience, based on increased activity, healthier snacking options and better football watching mechanics (seriously).
